Born in 1970 in Acarigua, Venezuela.
Luis grew up and became a photographer between Venezuela and Spain. After a long and consolidated career as a photojournalist carrying out documentary projects in the Americas, Asia and Europe, which were published in magazines in Spain, Europe and Latin America, his current work is based on artistic creation and the production of photobooks and exhibitions.
His focus is on Latin American culture, where he generates stories from his personal perspective, reflecting on the transformative process of the everyday into the unusual, the tragic into the funny and vice versa. Inspired by literature, popular culture, cinema, poetry, myths and traditions, (even lies and gossip) he relies on the use of different types of imaginative, magical or fantasy realities, to create parallel worlds tailored to his own expectations.
In 2021, Luis founded La Chancleta Voladora (The Flying Flip Flop), driven by the limited visibility of photography authors from South Latin America and the Caribbean—particularly those working independently or with small publishing houses—at art fairs across the United States and Europe.
La Chancleta Voladora also aims to support artists working in photography by providing resources and opportunities to print and promote their photobooks, while allowing them full control over their work and publications.
Latin American authors, from the northernmost to the southernmost regions of the continent, are redefining themselves—looking inward, building community, and reaching out to the world.

Luis se crió y se hizo fotógrafo entre Venezuela y España. Después de una larga y consolidada carrera como fotoperiodista realizando proyectos documentales en las Américas, Asia y Europa, que se publicaron en revistas de España, Europa y Latinoamérica, su trabajo en la actualidad está basado en la creación artística y la producción de fotolibros y exposiciones.
Su enfoque se centra en la cultura Latinoamericana, donde genera historias desde su perspectiva personal, reflexionando en el proceso transformativo de lo cotidiano en insólito, de lo trágico en divertido y viceversa. Inspirado por la literatura, la cultura popular, el cine, la poesía, los mitos y las tradiciones, (incluso en las mentiras y los chismes) se apoya en el uso de diferentes tipos de realidades imaginativas, mágicas o fantasiosas, para crear mundos paralelos a medida de sus propias expectativas.
En 2021, Luis fundó La Chancleta Voladora, impulsado por la escasa visibilidad de autores de fotografía del sur de América Latina y el Caribe—especialmente aquellos que trabajan de manera independiente o con pequeñas editoriales—en ferias de arte en Estados Unidos y Europa.
La Chancleta Voladora también se dedica a apoyar a artistas que trabajan desde la fotografía, brindándoles recursos y oportunidades para imprimir y promocionar sus fotolibros, mientras mantienen el control total sobre sus obras y publicaciones.
Los autores latinoamericanos, de norte a sur del continente, se están redefiniendo desde adentro, en comunidad y hacia el mundo.
